Paint protection film is the only thing we install that is genuinely physical. A ceramic coating changes how the surface behaves chemically; film puts a layer of urethane between your paint and the object hitting it. Stones chip the film, not the paint.
That matters most on the panels that actually get hit: the nose, the bumper, the leading edge of the hood and mirrors, the rocker panels behind the front wheels. On a car that sees I-15 or canyon roads, those are the areas that chip, and a chip is a body shop job rather than a polish.
We are Ghost Film certified, and every install happens in the bay at our Bluffdale shop. Coverage is quoted per vehicle, partial front to full car, and film starts at $1,250.

Paint protection film puts urethane between the road and your clear coat. The tabs below walk through what the film does, how a quality install shows and where the honest limits sit.

- Film is built for exactly this: road rash and stone strike on the leading edges of the car.
- Rock chips are physics. A ceramic coating is chemical and stops no impacts; urethane absorbs the hit, and many cars run film on the strike zones with a coating over everything.
- Partial front, full front or full vehicle: we will tell you what is worth covering for how you actually drive rather than quoting the biggest package.
- The honest limit: film is not armor against a heavy impact. It is the difference between a chip in film and a chip in your paint.

What pairs with film
Film handles the physical half of protection. These two decide what the rest of the finish looks like.
Coating over the top
- Film and coating are not alternatives. Many cars get film on the strike zones and a coating over everything, including the film.
- The film takes the impacts; the coating handles the day-to-day chemistry, with release and beading across every painted surface.
- The two solve different problems, and on a kept car they usually belong together.
Start from corrected paint
- Machine polishing levels swirls and haze out of the clear coat instead of hiding them. It is the step before anything gets locked under film or a coating.
- Film and coatings are both optically clear: they protect the finish you give them, so the paint gets polished to its best before anything is sealed.
- Corrected paint is the best possible base for protection, and most corrections at the shop roll straight into it.
Common questions
Will film stop stone chips?
It is built for exactly that: road rash and stone strike on the leading edges. It is not armor against a heavy impact, but it is the difference between a chip in film and a chip in your paint.
Does it go yellow?
Cheap film does, for known chemical reasons: plasticizers migrating out of PVC and UV breaking down older urethanes. The current premium class is aliphatic TPU, engineered to stay clear for years. It is one of the reasons the film fitted matters as much as the fitting.
Can I have film and a coating?
Yes, and it is a common combination: film on the panels that take strikes, coating over the whole car including the film.
How much of the car should I cover?
Depends on the car and the miles. We will tell you what is worth covering for how you actually drive rather than quoting the biggest package.
Increase the longevity of your PPF with a maintenance plan
Film ages best when it is washed right: contamination lifted before it bakes in, edges kept clean, hydrophobics working. A plan keeps that happening on a schedule instead of when you get around to it.
